Today we have with us Donna Grant who has just released her newest book Midnight's Captive. This is the 6th book in her Dark Warriors series. Welcome Donna and first, thank you for doing this interview.
What inspired you to write your first book?
I always had all these stories running through my head. I also tended to be in the middle of a book and tell my husband how I thought it might end. He kept prodding me to try my hand at writing, so one day during my lunch hour at work, I did. :)
How do you come up with the titles/series names?
Most of my titles (Dark Sword/Dark Warriors/Dark Kings) are done by my amazing editor. The series names I try to invoke what the series is about in the title.
Is there a message in your novels that you want readers to grasp?
Love is real and worth fighting for. That there is such a thing as finding your soul mate and staying together forever.
If you had to choose one, what writer would you consider a mentor?
Every book I've ever read has mentored me in some way from plotting to characterization to descriptions and so on.
What current projects are you working on?
I'm finishing up copy edits for Phelan's book (MIDNIGHT'S TEMPTATION - Oct 1st) and on the last 100 pages or so of the first full length Dark King book FIRE RISING.
Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.
My fans
Which warrior is your favorite?
Hmm...That’s hard, but I'd have to say Phelan
If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
No. If I go down that road, there is so much that I would change. That's why every writer has to know when to stop revising or they'll revise the life right out of the story. Plus, with every book a writer grows and changes.
Are there any characters right now that are giving you a hard time about getting their story down on paper?
Not currently ::knock on wood::
HOW do you come up with these amazing and sexy characters?
lol. I love alpha males. My husband is one, and I find it incredibly sexy. I like strong women, but at the same time, there is something inherently romantic about a man who wants to - and can - take care of his woman. There is no set of men known more for this than Highlanders, which make them great heroes, IMO
Has anyone in your real life been personified into a character in your books?
I've been tempted, but no. lol. Just as I can't use names of characters if I personally know someone with that name, I don't put them in books.
Do you have to have anything around or with you when you sit down to write?
I have a large chair I have in my office that I get comfy in with my laptop. Normally Tink, my Chihuahua, will sit beside me with the cats on the back or arm rests. I also like to have some music on when I write.
